At Alpine, we are committed to preserving the natural beauty and ecological integrity of our place on the Escarpment. Our dedication to sustainability is reflected in every aspect of our operations, from energy-efficiency to environmental stewardship.

Our Sustainability Statement:

Our commitment to sustainability is a core value that guides our decisions and actions, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the beauty and adventure of our alpine environment.

Alpine Ski Club has signed the Sustainable Tourism 2030 Pledge to demonstrate our commitment to improving the sustainability performance of our business between now and 2030. The UN World Tourism Organization defines sustainable tourism as “tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities.”

The Club has recently added Sustainability to the Infrastructure portfolio among our Board of Directors and have established a member volunteer Sustainability Committee. Going forward, we are committed to setting measurable goals and objectives while keeping our members informed of our progress. Starting in 2025, we will share an annual Sustainability Report as part of the fall Strategic Plan Update, outlining our goals, objectives, and key performance indicators to track our journey toward a sustainable future.

We encourage our community to actively participate in our sustainability efforts, the focus of which is outlined in the topics below.

  • Energy Consumption: reduce overall energy usage and switch to renewable sources, where possible.
  • Waste Management: minimize waste generation and promote recycling and composting.
  • Carbon Footprint: offset carbon emissions through sustainable practices and carbon reduction initiatives.
  • Sustainable Land Use: protect the natural landscape while ensuring it remains accessible and enjoyable.
  • Foster Community Engagement and Education: build a community that is actively involved in sustainability and aware of environmental challenges facing our Club and industry.

GreenStep Gold Certification

We’re proud to share that Alpine is now Sustainable Tourism Gold Certified, as designated by GreenStep.

GreenStep is a leading sustainability framework that helps tourism businesses measure, improve, and certify sustainability practices. The process compared Alpine’s practices against a set of 87 criteria in 16 different categories that are Global Sustainable Tourism Council-Recognized and aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

This achievement reflects our continued commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices across our operations. We will continue working to deepen our sustainability efforts and make a positive impact for generations to come.
