This winter, Alpine expanded how members can enjoy the Club beyond the slopes with the launch of the Hike & Spike Club, a new weekly hiking group that gives members the opportunity to experience hiking in Collingwood from a different perspective.
Led by members of Alpine’s dedicated Snowshoe Committee, the Hike & Spike Club offers a welcoming way to experience the another side of the hill, whether members are seasoned winter hikers or simply looking for a new way to enjoy the outdoors. Meeting every Saturday afternoon in-season, this member program quickly became a popular opportunity to connect with fellow members, discover new trails, and take in Alpine’s winter landscape from a different perspective.
Each week’s route is thoughtfully selected by the Snowshoe Committee, with hikes alternating between two formats:
- Cruiser Days offers a more relaxed pace, ideal for members newer to winter hiking or those looking for a leisurely outing through Alpine’s trails.
- Climber Days provide a more challenging adventure, featuring steeper terrain, quicker pacing, and routes designed to get the heart pumping.

Staying Active & Nurturing New Friendships
The 2025-26 season also included a special new event for the hiking community: the Hike & Glühwein Social. In February, members hiked up the scenic Switchback Trail to the Upper Chalet, where they were welcomed with warm Glühwein, freshly baked pretzels, and traditional music. Whether members joined for the exercise, the après atmosphere, or simply a cozy winter afternoon by the fire, the event was a wonderful celebration of Alpine’s trails and winter spirit.

Following an enthusiastic first season, the Hike & Spike Club has already become a welcome addition to Alpine’s winter experience. For members looking to explore Collingwood hiking trails in a new season, the program offers another way to discover the landscape around the Club.
The Team Behind The Trails
A special thank you goes to Alpine’s Snowshoe Committee, whose continued volunteerism and dedication to maintaining and sharing the Club’s trail network made this initiative possible.
