Since joining Alpine in the late 1990s, the on-hill programs have been a cornerstone of our experience, offering something for each member of our family. Whether it’s the thrill of racing, perfecting our technique in lessons, or simply enjoying the camaraderie of fellow members, these programs have deepened our love for the sport and strengthened our bond as a family.

From day one, my wife Kimberley started her ladies’ ski program in her rear-entry boots, which she was told to replace immediately (Christmas came early that year). Our daughters, Vaylen and Anika, who’d skied since they were 2 years old but had never raced, joined the racing program. I jumped in to help manage the kids’ race teams and dabbled in the Fun & Glory race league.

Our family knew nothing about ski racing, but the Alpine race parents were amazing – supporting us through the maze of rules and options. With Alpine’s support, both Vaylen and Anika developed into international FIS racers. After retiring from competitive racing, they coached at Alpine and participated in Fun & Glory and the Masters Interclub Race Team.

Their engagement in ski racing provided many valuable life lessons. For example, you learn more from failure than success, and the love of trying again regardless of the results, helps you develop your skills. These and many other insights gained through ski racing have benefited my girls personally and professionally.

Once the girls stepped out of the racing spotlight, I was asked to manage the Masters Interclub Race Team. Although this role can sometimes feel like herding cats, the camaraderie among our fellow racers has kept me coming back each year. In fact, Alpine won its first ever Hethrington Cup this past season – a remarkable achievement earning Alpine year-long bragging rights across the Ridge!

Our passion for Alpine and the friendships we formed extend beyond the slopes. Alpine is more than just a place to ski; it’s a community where we’ve found a second home. Our commitment to the Club and its programs reflects our gratitude for all the ways Alpine has enriched our lives. We’re proud to be part of a club that truly embodies the spirit of skiing and family.
