Nifty Nifty.... Look Who's Going to Be Fifty

From the early days as a travelling club, to the beginning of Alpine's home on the Ridge, 50 years has suddenly passed.  The Club as we know it today is the culmination of many years of work by dedicated volunteers all who share a passion for Alpine and what it means to their families.

As part of the planning for the 50th Anniversay in 2010, a book is being planned to weave the story of Alpine by sharing the tales of our members and to illustrate our history with pictures.  The objective is to produce a high quality coffee table book that can be read cover to cover as a story, can be picked up just for a short time to read or can be flipped through as a picture book.

Susan Renouf and Carla Nicolson are coordinating the efforts of many to make this book come alive and to be something every Alpine family will want to have.  Paul Wilson (www.paulwilson.ca) has been contracted to interview members and to write the story.  Paul Wilson is a freelance writer, editor, radio producer and translator.  He now lives with his wife and editorial assistant, Patricia, in Heathcote, Ontario, close to Georgian Bay where, when time allows, he sails his Herreschof H-28.  Watch for Paul and Patricia at the Club this winter.

Wendy Hately, Marketing and Communications Coordinator is also on the committee as a critical link with the Club.  Doug and Doris Smith have agreed to help collect and sort through the photographs that members submit for possible inclusion in the book.

In order for us to recreate the life and times of Alpine for the fiftieth anniversary book, we need stories, anecdotes, memories, and photos that capture your experience of life at this remarkable ski club.

There is a drop-down list of eight topics to help us organize your contributions. You may submit as often as you want, and make your entries as long or as short as you like, but try to limit each submission to a single anecdote. For instance, you may have childhood memories of skiing in the days of the T-bar lifts, or memories of an Alpine party where you met the man or woman who changed your life: please submit a separate story for each memory. If you have a collection of club memorabilia, let us know.

Don’t forget to caption and date your photos.
